Precipitation and not cover crop composition influenced corn economic optimal N rate and yield

چکیده

Abstract The effects of single species cover crops on corn ( Zea mays L.) N requirement and grain yield are well studied throughout the U.S. Midwest. However, comparing crop mixes that include different compositions grass broadleaf is limited. Fourteen response experiments were conducted in South Dakota from 2018 to 2021. Fall planted after small harvest mixtures dominantly grasses, broadleaves, a 50/50 grass/broadleaf mixture, no control. Compared control, including led differences economic optimal rate (EONR) at zero (0N) EONR 44%, 62%, 83% time, respectively. As spring crop/residue biomass its C content increased, decreased increased when R 2 = 0.36–0.56). Including reduced resulted similar precipitation above 850 mm. When occurred with return N, 3 site‐years (mean decrease US$358 ha −1 ) only 1 site‐year did increase (+US$335 ). Thus, first year growing (i.e., or mix) before corn, growers can normally expect some EONR. appropriate maintained any minimized.

Corn yield and yield stability under varying nutrient management, crop rotation, and rainfall

Long-term yield performance and yield stability of common cropping systems needs to be simultaneously assessed at various fertility regimes. Based on a consecutive 19-year field trial, including eight fertilization treatments with different combinations of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and recycled manure (RM), the effects of fertilization and crop rotation on corn (Zea mays L.) y...

Integrative impacts of soil tillage on crop yield, N use efficiency and greenhouse gas emission in wheat-corn cropping system

Wheat-corn cropping system is one of the most important grain production systems in theworld. However, the integrative impacts of soil tillage on crop yield, N use efficiency (NUE)and greenhouse gases (GHGS) emissions are not well documented in this system. Thus, a twoyear field experiment was carried out in a typical wheat-corn cropping system with four tillageregimes during the wheat season, ...

Modeling Long-Term Corn Yield Response to Nitrogen Rate and Crop Rotation

Improved prediction of optimal N fertilizer rates for corn (Zea mays L.) can reduce N losses and increase profits. We tested the ability of the Agricultural Production Systems sIMulator (APSIM) to simulate corn and soybean (Glycine max L.) yields, the economic optimum N rate (EONR) using a 16-year field-experiment dataset from central Iowa, USA that included two crop sequences (continuous corn ...

N uptake and yield of wheat as influenced by integrated use of organic and mineral nitrogen

The effect of integrated use of mineral and organic N sources (farmyard manure, poultry manure, and Filter Cake) on yield and N uptake of wheat were assessed in biennial field experiment carried out on silty clay loam soil in Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture, Tarnab, Peshawar Pakistan during 2005-07. Combined dose of N provided from all sources was applied @120 kg ha-1. There were 17 ...
